Taking Charge, Sort Of…

We all have those days (sometimes weeks, months, years) where it’s tough to get out of bed or even do those things we absolutely know will improve our energy level or outlook or fulfillment in life. What I’ve found lately is that life is a lot like writing. As a writer, some of the best advice I’ve ever been given is this: “Butt to chair. One word leads to two. Don’t think. Just do.” An object in motion tends to stay in motion. Put one foot in front of the other. All of it is really the same advice. The smallest step forward often is enough to create the momentum we need to continue–to reboot whatever needs rebooting. I might not feel like working today, but if I can just open my email, I’ll get sucked in and get engaged. Just one click. That’s all I have to concentrate on and maybe, just maybe, today the rest will follow. What inspired this blog today, you might ask? A friend of mine is fighting not to fall into a familiar hole, and his text this morning contained a typo that was as telling as it was true: “Feeling better. Job networking, gym, living. It’s time for me to fake charge. Amen. #fakecharge.
